This makes sense to me, and I want to hire that content creator. I think the challenge is going to be finding a subject matter expert who is also a productive writer and who is also flexible enough to create a voice and point of view that actually works from scratch.
One option I have seen is finding a subject matter expert + a productive writer individually; then the SME talks to the writer about the topic/content, then the writer does his/her job. In that way, you don't need a person with both skills.
Great point. Would echo Ivan. Most subject matter experts already speak the language of their peers. Also I imagine you are now a subject matter expert too -- the key is, how do you use subject matter experts' time most efficiently? Which could basically be - they sit down with your "content creator" and get interviewed for an hour 1x / week. Could create a podcast out of that interview + plenty of blog posts, etc.
